We all have a mental to-do list—tasks that linger in our minds, pop up at random, and show themselves when we’d rather they didn’t. This week, I’ve got a simple trick to hopefully help you tackle them.
A simple thing to do this week…
⏲ Set a 20 minute timer.
Think about one of those tasks that’s been weighing on your mind, one that you know would benefit you but you just aren’t excited to address it. This week, set a timer for just 20 minutes and commit to giving that task a tiny chunk of your time.
If you finish the task in 20 minutes, awesome—high five! If not, you’ll have made progress, and sometimes, that’s enough. Often, once we get started, we’re energized to keep going and end up completing the task entirely, with a few extra minutes to spare.
For me, this strategy was the key to tackling our junk drawer last week. I wasn’t motivated at all (I mean, it’s the junk drawer), but after setting the timer, I got it completely organized in about 20 minutes. Having a functional space for everyday items and one less thing on my mental to-do list was the best pick-me up for a long week.
What task could use a 20-minute burst of focus this week? Let us know in the comments!
We’ve spent this whole weekend checking off little tasks like this and it’s been impactful! So far I’ve cleaned out dresser drawers, the jewelry on top of my dresser, and the fridge!
We’re on winter break so I’ve been decluttering one area/room about every other day. I was able to donate a giant bag of clothes.
