I love winter. And sure, I say that about every season, but why the heck not? If the average person will only experience around 77 winters in their lifetime, that means that I’m nearly halfway through mine. Or better yetβ€”if I’m lucky, it means I get a second half of a lifetime to cherish the gift of another winter on this earth with the people I love most.

Temps are bitter cold across much of the country this week, a firm reminder that winter has officially settled in. As many of us (who are fortunate enough πŸ™) huddle by the fire, bury ourselves under blankets or wrap up in excessive layers, it’s easy to meet this season with the same scowl as my favorite mitten-clad senator.

But as winters become shorter and warmer, what if we learned to embrace the seasonβ€”not just to enjoy our lives a little more, but also to deepen our investment in protecting the season?

In these modern times, life can feel quite separated from nature. With AI, meal delivery services, brain chips (WTF, BTW?!), mars rockets, ultra-processed foods, and plastic-based clothing, so much of our world has become increasingly unnatural. But we’re not separateβ€”we are nature. And we can learn a lot from the way the natural world continues to thrive in harmony. Seasons serve a purpose for all living things, and winter is no exception. It’s a season of hibernation, rest, resilience, and renewal for all.

Today, in celebration of winterβ€”I’m sharing my top tips for making the most of the season, along with book and movie recommendations to enjoy, of course. I’m writing this with a giant mug of cocoa, topped high with cocowhip and a sprinkle of cinnamonβ€”highly recommend the same for reading.

Let’s flip the script on winter with small but impactful ways to create your own warmth and appreciate the season.
