I agree, Charmaine Wilkerson knows how to build a rich narrative that also expands worldviews. I enjoyed GOOD DIRT immensely, and am planning to go back to BLACK CAKE, which did you end up liking more or is it not comparable?
The Parable of the Sower and Ready or Not are on my list!!
Yes!! I find her writing style to be so similar but those two stories felt totally different to me (but as I type this I also see some parallels). I just really loved Black Cake I think it's hard to see anything surpassing that, but in Good Dirt I think the modern day story was really captivating. If you loved Good Dirt I think you will be in for a treat with Black Cake-- will be interesting to hear what you think reading them in the reverse order as me-- please share after you do!!
SHEP!!! Such a good one. Yes I'll be curious to see how that one plays out. The plot of Ready or Not was just so wonderful and kept me hooked in a way many romances struggle to do.
Just finished Wild Dark Shore and it was absolutely incredible! I’m now committed to reading everything Charlotte McConaghy has written. My sister also gifted me One Day, Everyone Will Have Always Been Against This for my birthday in March, so that’s on my April list…along with some lighter, easier reads.😅
Eeeek I found a $10 copy of Wild Dark Shore on Pango and I'm excited to read it!!
Ah yes let me know how that book goes, good idea to sprinkle in some lighter reads. And happy belated birthday friend!!! Hope your next trip around the sun is a marvelous one.
I just binged Broken Country, which I enjoyed, but finished Demon Copperhead for book club which I cannot stop thinking about!
Keep hearing such great things about Broken Country! And I think I'm ready to read Demon Copperhead this April, eek.
Ahh, so glad you liked Ready or Not!!! I love, love that one.
Yes top tier romance for sure! Do you have any other similar faves?!
You With A View comes to mind or Bastone’s most recent novel: Promise me Sunshine would hit the spot!
Thank you!! I’m on it!! 🫡🫡

Thank you, and I will!
This is a side note but all your covers look so cheery and delightful together!
They really do!!!
*Frantically puts Book of Joy on birthday list.
And I loved Cara Bastone's book, cannot wait for the next one (I've been patiently waiting on the library reserve list).
I can’t wait to hear your take on it once you get it!!
March was such a good reading month for me. Some standouts… The Bright Years, All The Other Mothers Hate me and A Girl Within a Girl Within a Girl
Wow you always have such great book suggestions that haven't made it on my radar yet-- excited to look into these!
I’m reading Private Rites by Julia Armfield and it’s entrancing but also unsettling. I want to know what’s going on but I also really do not lol
Thanks for this roundup!
I really loved Our Wives Under the Sea and I've been curious about Private Rites, keep me posted!!
It was wild and abrupt, I’ll be thinking about it for a long time
Love when a book sticks with you!
I absolutely adored Ready or Not (Shep!!! 🥰) and can't wait to read the author's latest.
