Hello, and happy Indigenous Peoples’ Day. It’s a beautifully rainy fall day here, the leaves are showing off, and the rain brings an extra touch of magic. But no matter the weather where you are today there is one simple thing you can do to feel more grounded and connected.
A simple thing to do this week…
🌅 Look up.
The other morning, I woke up before the rest of my household and stepped onto the back deck. Breathing in the cool, dewy air, I tilted my head up to take in the sky—a soft pale blue, a scattering of smeared clouds and a flock of birds flying in formation, bound for some distant destination. In that quiet moment, I felt small yet grounded, connected to the same sky that hangs above every living thing on this planet, and reminded of the vastness beyond.
Interestingly, most of us spend only 10% of our time looking at distant objects. Studies show that the act of looking up and away, especially in nature, can reduce stress and improve mental clarity.
This week, I encourage you to pause, look up at the sky—whether day (avoiding looking directly at the sun) or night—and take in your surroundings. Breathe deeply and see how it shifts your perspective. Place a reminder near your door to make this practice part of your routine.
When’s the last time you looked up? Give it a go and let us know how it makes you feel in the comments. Give this post a heart as your commitment to looking up as much as you can this week.
In case you missed it—
Happy skygazing, see you next week for another A Simple Thing—
“In that quiet moment, I felt small yet grounded,” YES! It’s simple but totally supernatural🫶🏻 I just read this while swinging on my deck surround by Colorado trees in full color and a lovely sky as a backdrop. Thank you for the reminder and now I’ll do some breathing exercises too;)
I love this Brittany!
