Awesome list. I might tweak the movie list to include the original Parent Trap, Hercules, ET, Iron Giant, & Star Wars. Maybe some Christmas in July classics like Elf, Home Alone, Miracle on 34th Street with candy canes, hot chocolate and snow cones.
I have my summer beach reads! Just started “People we Meet on Vacation.” I have 6 library books checked out and have more on hold. Also hang out at the pool and will rewatch some of those movies.
I just finished the chapter when they were in New Orleans! I just launched another Substack to review my summer reads- https://substack.com/@luasolbookreads
Some of my fav throwback movies for summer are The Goonies, Now & Then, 50 First Dates and Stand By Me. I also watch Grown Ups 1 & 2 with my daughter every summer for the kick-off.
So many good ones!! Ooo I looove 50 First Dates and it's been so long since I watched Now and Then. I might need to make a jar where I draw from all the movies 😂 how ever will I choose what to re-watch?!
I love summer. It’s my favorite. I have been making summer playlists for years and years. It’s always so fun to revisit them later and recall all of the memories from that summer.
My planned summer read a louds are Swiss Family Robinson, The Secret Island by Enid Blyton, and the Wild Robot sequels. I don’t have a personal stack as I am just going by my mood this year.
We also love watching old classic movies with our son especially in the summer. We just watched Mary Poppins and he loved it. Next up is Freaky Friday! Oh and we just made root beer floats today!
Love this list! So nostalgic, so wonderful!! I saw a fun tie dye craft using tissue paper and a spray bottle. Seems especially great/easy for my younger kids 👌🏼
Yes 🙌 Was just lamenting how my kids will never know the joy of a mix CD becoming a soundtrack to life the way they used to! Maybe we can make it happen with a seasonal playlist. Also, the drive in is an annual summer tradition for us, its so fun!
Summer romance reads: My Big Fat Fake Marriage by Charlotte Stein, 40-Love by Olivia Dade, Rosaline Palmer Takes the Cake by Alexis Hall, Mr & Mrs Witch by Gwenda Bond, Triple Sec by TJ Alexander, Sabbatical by Katrina Jackson, Funny Guy by Emma Barry, Tastes Like Shakkar by Nisha Sharma, A Gentleman’s Gentleman by TJ Alexander, The Duke Who Didn’t by Courtney Milan, Rafe: A Buff Male Nanny by Rebekah Weatherspoon
My kids’ retro summer involves reading rainbow, magic school bus, SpongeBob, science experiments, playground picnics, a blow up pool, hanging laundry on the line, doing crafts with their babysitter, gardening, lots of popsicles, dance parties, eating fries at the local pool. It’s so hot here already we’re letting them stay up very late just to get a chance at some family walks and kick the soccer ball around. Saturday mornings they watch cartoons and I make French toast or pancakes. My summer bucket list is drinking tequila with my girlfriends with no kids in sight, dinner at a rooftop restaurant, a long pool day where I get to actually read a romance novel. We all like trips to the library. I’m definitely going to pack us lunchables!! Maybe even capri suns.
Clueless, I could watch it every day 🤣
Saaaame!!!! I know every.single.word. 😂🙌
As if!!!

Love those ideas!! It’s been too long since I’ve watched E.T.!!

Alex is my favorite of Emily Henry's male characters.
Wearing overalls today because of you! ☺️ this is such a fun list
👏👏👏 Kicking us off with a BANG! I love it. Such an easy breezy throwback that's always in style. 🌞
We are on the exact same wave lengths this summer! Love it!
I'm adding 'make sun tea' and 'root beer floats' to my summer to do list!
Literally posted this, saw Nina's post, saw your post, and thought-- should we all have a sleepover?!! 💞😂🙌 I love it!!!

Everything about this is so good, Brittany! The hair wrap idea really took me back to middle school 😂
