I've gotten into YouTube a lot this winter. I seem to gravitate towards silent vlogs or minimalist (ish) vlogs. My favorites are Kahvihuone8497 and Benita Larsson.
I took all social media off my phone and only have one game now. It has helped a lot. I need to take reddit of next, but I just can't pull the plug on it yet.
Great newsletter today, it really hit on a lot of things that were on my mind. I also chopped my hair, but chin length, and it was freeing!
Oooo thank you, I will look them up! I do love the minimalist blogs and the silent ones are so lovely when I can sit down to watch, can't wait to check those out.
Do you use the reddit app? I'll be honest, reddit is a bit over my head but I do stumble upon threads when I'm looking for recipes or book ideas and I come to them via the web browser.
Awe thank you!! Oh and yay for fresh free hair!! Yes I agree it was a good opportunity to let go a little bit and mix things up. 🥂
Well this maybe my favorite Lovin Lately post yet and not only because of the shoutout 🤗 but also all the inspiration you sparked for me. We have a house full of Curry fans over here so we are thriving with all the basketball content. I’m glad you shared YouTube treasures I’m always on the hunt! I bet your haircut looks stunning. I have to share my favorite peloton instructor is often nostalgic and he shared about how we would once go into a Borders and listen to music before buying it. The story was more well told but the jist of it was “how did we have time to do that” and “the world is to busy now” “everything at our fingertips” it made me think of you and that you would have enjoyed what he was preaching. Ok and last thing my youngest daughter’s bday is coming up in 10 days. I’ve been so overwhelmed and haven’t purchased anything because we truly need nothing. Your coupon book is such a great idea as a gift. I really needed to see that today! Thank you Brittany!
💞👏 So grateful for all you always share!!! You know... I've come around to Curry, but there were some strong rivalry vibes back in the Westbrook days haha. Do you all get into March Madness much?
Ahhh I DO love that sentiment and was truly *just* thinking about this today-- how technology promised us more time but instead we have so much less and in relation to The Book of Joy how that makes us all so rushed and less likely to slow down and recognize each other. I'm still fleshing out my thoughts on this but it's definitely all connected. I miss going to the music stores!! This is one of my biggest concerns about bookstores in the digital age. We had a Hastings where I lived which was so fun-- rental movies (another thing I've been thinking about) and video games, music AND books! I could spend hours there, I miss those.
Ah gosh I so feel you on the gifts! And factor in extended family and it all adds up so quick. I'd really love to do some more refurbishing of secondhand items, I just need to get to the thrift store more regularly to plan ahead. But YES definitely do a coupon book, there are so many fun ideas you could add in there that just feel extra special in a coupon form!
I went straight to Pango after reading this, this morning and found a copy of The Book of Joy. I would love to read more about what you are sharing. My other half watches college his family is huge Gonzaga fans. I just stick to NBA 😂 it’s all I know.
Haha I feel that. My alma mater was pretty regularly in the tournament until a few years ago when some hazing stuff went down and they got in big trouble (ugh) but now I’m invested in the games and some of the teams and we do a bracket with my husband’s college friends and my NBA friends. I pick teams with my heart— like UCLA because I love Russel Westbrook or Kentucky for SGA… or team’s with fun colors or mascots 😂
Oh yes the coupon book is great! We still have a bunch of unopened gifts from Christmas. The grandparents went a little overboard so I need to reel them back in again. My oldest's birthday is in a few weeks, so I'm trying to keep it to 3ish gifts from us and 1 each from the extended family.
That's what we focus on, and having to remind family every time that 1 gift per-- it helps for us too when we remind them that 1 gift per kid, for 4 kids and 8 gifting family members adds up to 32 gifts just at Christmas-- sometimes that perspective is powerful.
I absolutely adore that you made your kiddo a coupon book for his birthday. That is perfection. Also, I had to high-five you re: Toyota Corollas. The ‘96 was the first one I bought with my own cash dollars in grad school.
Yay new hair cut! I bet it feels so good! I also heard that hair can hold onto negative emotions/memories and sometimes a haircut is like hitting a refresh button! Who knows if that’s actually true but I feel that whenever I’ve chopped off a significant amount of my hair too! Hope you feel light and free!
Love the coupon book idea for birthday! My little guy turns 7 this weekend and I’ve been trying to be mindful about presents knowing his love language is gifts but also making it intentional too!
Ooo I love that though, thank you for sharing! I'm ready for some fresh energy so I'll take it hehe.
Yes yes yes oh do it! Last night he used his coupon for "choosing a meal this week" and he was so excited for an extra pizza night on the menu and we even mixed it up and had something different than our typical pizza night-- just so much novelty and joy! He's so proud of his little redemptions.
The gift ideas for kids!!! Genius!! I’ve been trying to figure out ways to reign in spending on birthdays, my kids would love things like this! Thank you for the suggestions!
Yay, so glad to hear that! It really was a big ah-ha when I was like "Ohhh I got things like movies and music as a child!" and to think of ways to package those types of treasures for littles. Please share if you come up with any other fun ideas!
Okay, you've inspired me to delete email from my phone when I go on vacation next week. I find myself checking it allllll the time after work hours, but why?! You're right; it's such a gateway. I can't wait to see more of the basement, the little bits look so cute! And yay for short hair ◡̈ I went short three years ago and have had trouble going back to long again.
I was soooo anxious about taking it off my phone but it has been so incredibly helpful and has lead me to be much more mindful overall— and I’ve dramatically reduced how many emails I get because in checking it only 2x a day the excessiveness really reveals itself.
Oh love that you love keeping it short! I’m excited to play with it a bit more, I can still clip it up and I find myself just reverting by back to that 🤣 might need to go shorter!
My younger son played basketball for MANY years (and almost played college basketball, now just crushing intramural at UT). We are a basketball family. I forgot to put March Madness in my Super Stack! It's a MAJOR EVENT this month. :o)
I really loved this newsletter today. I felt like we were chatting and hugging over a cup of tea. <3 I'd love to see your new hair if you feel like sharing! Yellowcard really takes me back! And Michelle Branch! I had both of those CDs as well.
Last year I removed social media from my life completely (don't miss it at all!) and this year I deleted my email from my phone too! It is absolutely the reason I was still mindlessly purchasing things and for some reasons I constantly checked it? Now, I don't even hear about the cool new thing so I can't even consider buying it. I'm only buying what I need so far.
That makes me so happy to hear, yay! I definitely need to snap a picture of my hair-- I'm still in the phase where I'm trying to clip it up and half of it is (not in a cute way lol) hanging out haha. Maybe I can play with it this weekend.
I love that you got rid of social media and email and do n't miss them-- it's so true both are such sources of consumption even when you try to be diligent and thoughtful, the algorithm has other plans. And hearing all of this it makes me really happy you are part of this reader community and find this content to support your intentions. 🫶 Thank you for enriching my day with these insights!
If I made a list of favorite things "Lovin' Lately" would be on it<3
🥹🥹🥹🥹 okaaayyyy now, Bailey. 🥲🥲 Thank you! I'm so glad it brings you joy!!!

The joy book is one of my favorites! I've done a lot with that book! And thanks for all your recommendations and ideas!
I’m so glad you loved it too, it’s going to be my go-to gift for others this year!!
The coupon book idea is so, so sweet!
Thank you, Alisha!! It’s been a big hit so far— he’s using a coupon for pizza as dinner tonight, hehe!
The gift ideas for kids!!! Genius!! I’ve been trying to figure out ways to reign in spending on birthdays, my kids would love things like this! Thank you for the suggestions!

Ambiance videos are my FAVE! I typically have a rain one on while I sleep 😅
Also, looooved the "Idea Garden" link. Thanks for sharing!
Rain sounds are just sooooo soothing. I have a Hatch light/sunrise alarm that has different ambiance sounds, I need to try some out!
I'm so glad you enjoyed that too, such a lovely concept.
Thank you for the light in this overwhelming darkness
🥹😭 Literally everything I hope this can be. 🫶💞 Thank you, Sara.

As someone who saw Rebecca Black in concert this week, I greatly appreciate the Friday drop!
NO WAY!!! Ahhh I'm jealous, how fun, I hope you had a blast! That song is just essential for Fridays, hehe.
