Happy 2025, fellow humans who eat food (that’s us!)!
I think January gets a bad rap. Every year, we feel the societal pressure to shun cookies, carbs, or whatever the latest resolution-fueled trend dictates—blah, blah, blah. Personally, though, I enjoy the way January influences my plate.
After the holidays, I naturally crave more whole foods, smoothies, and meals that make me feel good. But it’s also cozy season, which means bottomless mugs of cocoa, warm cookies on demand, and an ever-steady rotation of sourdough slathered in something indulgent. For me, January is a month of exploration—because feeling good isn’t just about greens. It’s also about the comforting stuff, the nostalgic meals, the grilled cheese dipped in rich tomato bisque. This is the balance I aspire to year-round, and January sets the tone. We drink the green smoothies and lemon water, celebrate Sumo orange season, pile on the marshmallows for mid-afternoon cocoa, and keep cookie dough in the freezer for nightly post-dinner treats. And that balance feels *just right* around here.
Today, as we welcome a new year, I’m sharing a look inside my fridge and a roundup of high-protein breakfasts, all featuring plants, and a bombtastic salad recipe for people who don’t love salads (that’s me!). Grab a fork and tuck in!
I've been craving a new wellness podcast to add to my routine but felt overwhelmed by the idea of jumping into one with hundreds of back episodes or one that’s overly complex (looking at you, Huberman 😅). Then, as if by manifestation, this landed in my inbox—Deliciously Ella’s brand-new podcast.
With only one episode out so far, it already feels like a perfect fit. The conversation flows like grabbing coffee with friends, blending thoughtful discussions on current wellness trends with insights from their professional vantage points (one of the hosts is a dietitian). They explore how to make nutrition sustainable—without guilt—while also bringing in perspectives from leading wellness professionals.
The first episode dives into everything from viral TikTok health trends to phone addiction, loneliness, and a groundbreaking gut health study based on 21,000 people. I’m excited to make these weekly episodes part of my routine—who’s joining me?
Take a peek inside my fridge—a real fridge. Not a “Here’s the link to my 45 Amazon storage containers that I loathe washing every week and I don’t even drink seltzer water, but it looks aesthetic, and sure, we have no room for leftovers, but isn’t this cute?” fridge. This is a family-of-six, I-complain-about its-terrible-design-at-least-once-a-week, but keeps our food cold, which keeps us nourished, fridge.
Post-holidays, I kinda geek out over for a fridge, freezer, and pantry clear-out. So technically, you’re seeing it after a refresh, but don’t expect high-tech soda rollers or perfectly stacked berry containers (you already know we opt for frozen berries in the winter anyway)— no shame in that game if those actually work for someone else, it’s just not that practical for us. Instead, I’ll show you what we really eat, what I like to prep for quick and easy meals on the ready, some go-to staples, and the fun stuff like condiments.
