A Simple Thing ✨ no. 9
the sale emails are coming, here's how I plan to take advantage of them
Black Friday has morphed into Black November…. Our inboxes are bursting with sale emails, and while I’m not one to pass up a great deal on something already on my wishlist, I’ve found a simple way to take advantage of this email deluge.
A simple thing to do this week…
📧 Unsubscribe.
Let’s face it—no one has ever said, “I wish I got more emails!” (And yes, the irony of this coming from an email is not lost on me. Stick with me!)
The holidays bring joy, connection, and… way too many marketing emails. Instead of spending your mornings swiping them away (just me?), take a few extra moments to hit unsubscribe.
Of course, there are brands and shops I genuinely enjoy hearing from. But there are also plenty of senders crowding my inbox that I don’t want to hear from. And some of them email me a lot.
As brands scramble to grab your attention, it’s the perfect time to give your inbox some breathing room. Unsubscribing doesn’t mean you’ll lose access to their products; you can still shop them—just on your own terms. Many brands even offer an option to reduce the frequency of their emails if you prefer to stay in the loop with less overwhelm.
I like to do a big inbox refresh a few times a year, but this season, when marketing emails are at their peak, is the prime time to take action.
Unsubscribe from a few promotional emails this week and see how it feels to start clearing the digital clutter.
As a heads-up, there won’t be A Simple Thing email next week as I prepare for some exciting things coming soon. In the meantime, feel free to revisit some past posts for inspiration.
Here’s to inbox peace and a little more breathing room!
I know some people use Unroll.me, but I wrote a rule in my Gmail where any email with an Unsubscribe link gets filtered into a different folder so that I can either read them later or actually hit the unsubscribe button!
In gmail, the unsubscribe option without even opening the email is 🧑🍳💋 it was a game changer for me!
