LOVE THIS SO MUCH OMG. The vibes are impeccable. You may have sold me on the giant sunscreen situation, especially as we edge closer to pool season. Also now I feel like I need to go wash all the things in my house that I hate washing haha

😘😘 You’re THE BEST. The sunscreen refill is GOLD! So much less plastic and mentally it’s easy to just buy once a season. ☺️ Where do you all pool? The Winooski pool is my best kept secret (Emily Jacobs goes there too!)! It’s dirt cheap for a summer pass for a family and the walk up pool situation is GOLD for littles. Might be a tad far for you but could be a fun option for day passes from time to time. We’ll have to meet up if you ever go.

but neither kiddo can swim yet so the walk-up kiddie pools are still worth their weight in gold in my book!

ooh how fun! Definitely should do a meetup sometime. We actually (cough, spoiled, cough) have a pool at our house. 😂🤯🫣

LOVE the new layout of your newsletter. And the spring vibes, so joyful! We're finally getting blooms here but the rain!!!! Not sure if you've had as much up north. Wishing for some sun.

SO.Much.Rain! And more to come. Yesterday we had sunshine for about an hour in the morning, and the neighborhood was as busy as Halloween night; everyone was out soaking it up. Bring on the sunshine!

Thank you so much, that means a lot coming from you!! 🥲💞

I got really superstitious after that game 1 loss so waited until we won last night to reply. 🤪🤪🤪

I totally agree with you though! But I so desperately want it for this team and for Shai to be MVP! Joker has had it enough. Also, if Russ isn’t the most darling, I don’t know who is! 🫶🏻

Ugh brutal game one, and insult to injury was being up past 1 am to watch them lose like that. 😭 I knew they would come back with a force last night, they simply are the better team.

Yes SGA has to get it!! The argument that Jokić averaged a triple-double is sooooo annoying because how many times did Russ do that and was never in contention for MVP except one time?! Grrr. I digress! 😤 But yes, love sweet Russ, loved SGA's words about him. And fully expect him to play against us as he would in any other game, still love him nonetheless. I miss him. 🥲

To Denver we go! 😅

Oh man! I didn’t even think about you being on the East coast to watch. Ouch!

I love that everyone gave Russ a stand O and that he was like “guys! You can’t cheer for the opposing team” 😂😂 But low-key you know he loves it.

This is a fun format! Random question but for your refill bottle do you update the expiration date? Or is it not a big deal because every summer you restock regardless? Haha I live in FL so sunscreen is practically a daily routine.

Expand full comment
Brittany Viklund's avatar

That’s actually a great question and I thought about mentioning that but couldn’t squeeze it in my text 🤣 We pretty much use an entire bag in one season so for you I bet you would too but it does last a little over 2 years. So I make sure the pump bottle is completely empty before refilling it. I think a date on washi tape could be a good way to keep track of need be. Honestly though, I find that when I had multiple bottles of sunscreen all over they were more likely to expire before using (they would just end up places, lost, forgotten, etc) but this system with the pump by the door and two small bottles (one in my pool tote, one in my regular tote— either go with us for travel) helps me keep better track

I loved this, Brittany! The format looks so cute and was so fun to page through! I also watched the video on TikTok ruining hobbies and loved it. Everything she said about books/readings I couldn’t agree more with.

Thank you, Michelle!! Gosh yes— I cringed at my self thinking of times I felt I needed a physical book of something I read on kindle or audio to have an aesthetic photo of. 🤪 Another reason why I love Substack, where I can rely more on graphics and words! But yes overall, a powerful message. I’m finding more of those consumerist tackling video essays catching my attention. Also the coloring stuff blew my mind!!!

I loooove “Lovin’ Lately” posts and I love this fun new format! I agree that Kate DiCamillo is an amazing author- thank you for this reminder about The Tale of Desperaux! I’ll have to read it aloud to my kids. We also love the Strega Nona treasury! And I cheat on tired nights by putting on the Strega Nona audiobook and laying in between the kids- I turn the pages and we all enjoy the pictures together and I get a little break at the end of a long day! 😆

Thank you, Marisa!! That's a brilliant hack. I haven't listened to the audio, but somehow I envision a very soothing narrator. I just love those stories. Have you ever read George and Martha books? That's another favorite treasury that I adore!

It is soothing and they have little songs and sound effects that play so it makes it fun! I haven’t read the George and Martha books yet! But I now have several on hold at my library. Thanks for the recommendation!

🥲🥲 Thank you so much for that! I enjoyed Magnolia, Vegan Food & Living, Good Housekeeping (a fave!), The New Yorker (mostly for the comics, lol), VegNews, The New York Review of Books, and a few different wellness and mental health-focused magazines that were beautifully illustrated and rich with info, I think they were more like one-off or quarterly-type publications.
